Our Mission & Vision

The mission of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church is to Love God, to Love Others and to Serve the World. Our vision to accomplish that mission is to teach people how to love God and grow in their relationship with Him through our worship gatherings on Sunday mornings.  Through the use of small groups, our members are taught how to sincerely love other people.  Finally, through acts of service, we will meet the needs of our community and beyond, while spreading the message of the Gospel.

Our Pastor

Jaime Smith

As the primary teaching pastor, Jaime has a passion for making the truth of Scripture relevant to daily life. He has served at Pleasant Grove since September 2014. He and his wife Rachel have five children. Outside of the church, Jaime and Rachel teach in the LaRue County Public Schools.

Where Can I Serve?

Jesus told us, his disciples, to make disciples of all nations. One of the most important values of this church is our mission to the world. It begins in our own community, and spreads overseas to every nation. Our goal is for church members to be involved in a variety of ministries from things as simple as cleaning tables, to preparing the church bulletins.  There are lots of ways for you to serve at Pleasant Grove.

Mission Outreach

Pleasant Grove is thrilled to be part of the spread of God’s kingdom around the world. We plan to be active in sending missionaries and supporting these missionaries with our money and with our prayers. Our vision is to regularly send small teams from our church to another country to assist our missionaries in practical projects and evangelistic outreach.

Music & Drama

God-honoring worship is something we strive for. We’re always looking for quality vocalists and instrumentalists to serve in the worship ministry.

Greeters & Ushers

The usher team at our church fills an important role. They are involved in directing attendees to their seats, ensuring the safety of the building during services, guiding traffic, helping visitors, answering questions, providing direction, unlocking doors, locking doors, and generally ensuring that the service can proceed problem-free. The usher team is a servant-hearted group of men and women whose ministry is integral to church life.

Media & Technology

Using media to spread the gospel is a privilege of this church. In an age of widespread technology, we have a stewardship to use these tools as best as possible for kingdom purposes. Get involved in this area by being a audio engineer or video production technician.  You can also follow us on Facebook and Twitter.

Prayer Warriors

Prayer cannot be overestimated. Prayer moves the hand of God. Our Church is a body of believers dependent upon prayer, and committed to God’s sovereignty. Each Sunday, during the morning service, a team of volunteers is praying for the ministry of the Word. Throughout the week, volunteers from our Prayer Warriors team pray for their pastor, a list of church members, any special requests, and missionary prayer needs. Each Wednesday, the church comes together for a special time of prayer and Bible study.

How Do I Meet People?

Our church is not a place for spectators. It is a place for team members. Whether you are a five-year old child, a ninety-five year old grandmother, a busy mom, or a businessman with big responsibilities, we want you to be a part of our vibrant church community. Here is how you can learn, serve, and grow at this church.

Small Group

Often, small groups of people are better able to interact and learn about a topic than larger groups are. For that reason, our church has a senior adult Bible study on Sunday mornings on the church campus.  We’re also looking to start small groups with others as we grow.  Those groups will most likely be held outside the church campus in member homes. The size of the group is anywhere from six to twelve people. At a time designated by your group leader you can participate in the small group study.

Youth Ministry

Our plan is to provide children of all ages the opportunity to be involved in similar-age small groups on Wednesday evening (7pm) and Sunday mornings (11am).  During this time, Bible lessons will be taught in such a way that every child gets to participate and learn. Each of the class teachers will be carefully screened and trained in children’s instruction.

Young Adults & Newly Married Couples

Life can get complicated once you cross that nebulous threshold into adulthood. There are complicated decisions. Bigger stakes. Serious relationships. And a whole lot more decisions. Marriage, for example, is one of the most important institutions of God.  As our church grows, our vision is to provide couples the opportunity to join marriage classes covering a range of topics, including Money, Getting Ready for Kids, Shepherding Children and Marriage and Sex.  We’re always looking for new, young families to help the church become more relevant to the world and make a more meaningful impact in our community.

Women’s Group

Women’s groups give the ladies in our church family special times of interaction. Our women’s groups are times of Bible study, prayer (and, of course, food). These groups provide a refreshing discipleship opportunity for the women in the church.

Men’s Accountability Group

Accountability among men is an act of integrity. Accountability is designed to protect, encourage, and develop men of all ages. Accountability groups consist of three men each. Accountability groups meet together as their schedules allow and keep in touch by email or phone.

Over 50’s

Once you get past fifty, the fun has just begun. Whether retired, just plain tired, or active as ever, the vision of the over-50 group at Pleasant Grove is to provide refreshment, ministry, and times of valuable interaction.  We envision a mentoring ministry that gives older believers a chance to meet with and help younger believers grow in Christ.

Your Message

Decisions You Make Affect Those Traveling With You

Every parent has been there. The trip ahead is long. The travel schedule is tight. You hit the road with a full tank, confident the plan you have crafted beats anything AAA could muster. But twenty minutes down the highway you hear a small, squeaky voice from the backseat. The artillery begins to bombard you. The questions.

The Home God Wants for His Presence

It was perhaps the greatest opportunity ever. God tells Moses that he wants to come to his people and dwell right in the middle of their camp. Not on the outskirts. Not in the ‘burbs. But right in the middle of where they were living.

When You Are Walled In, Look for the Way Out

There’s a wall in front of you. Behind you is a past you are running from. Beyond the wall awaits the promise of a new life. But you’re not moving because there is this “wall.” You feel trapped. No way out. This is just the sort of situation in which God does some of his finest work.

Trading in Your Dreams for Another’s

People nearing mid-life often crash into some startling and unexpected observations. For instance, we all dreamed big dreams when we were younger. But as we move at a break-neck pace through our twenties, thirties, and forties, we eventually slam head on into the realization that some of our dreams will never be realized.

When the Last in Line Gets Chosen for the Team

The casting agent enters the room with her top picks for the show’s leading man and lady. The new series will follow the spellbinding story of a clan that builds a powerful, world-impacting family tree. This is the pilot, and it is crucial to make the right call on the individuals who will fall in love and launch this Kennedy-like family of influence and fame.

God’s Great Passion is to Be With You

Some movies start at warp speed. Case in point: Star Trek. From the opening scene to the end it barely lets you breathe. If you slip out for popcorn you were sure to miss something important. And yet, people did.

Writing Your Life Chapter into The Story of Life

If you think Genesis is just a band from the ‘80’s . . .

If you think it was Dr. Dolittle who took two of each animal into a big boat . . .

If you think an epistle is a woman married to an apostle . . .

. . . you may need to know more of The Story.

Finding Your Story in His Story

If you simply judge books by their covers, you might pass this book by. Its title is Ozark Childhood: Stories from a Simpler Time and Place. There are a few faces on the front that are surely unfamiliar to you and an author whose name you would not recognize. On the back cover is a picture of the author who, with his white beard, might remind you of Santa Claus.
